Hello!

I was hoping to see if I could find some pigeon hatching eggs. I have a mated pair of pigeons that I can't let hatch babies due to genetic issues in their ancestry. They have 1 son from before the issue was found and they are an amazing couple/parents.

What would the price look like for egg shipping? Not too picky about the breed, but something built more for being an inside pet would be awesome.

I have homing pigeons; healthy but of poor quality for homers. They are pretty to look at and colors vary from browns to grays to whites to combinations. I have never shipped pigeon eggs and I'm not even sure it could be done as pigeons start brooding as soon as the first egg is laid. However, I would be willing to send them if you're willing to pay the shipping. There is a problem, though, that you might not be aware of. Pigeons have a set brood time. Mine quit the nest if the eggs don't hatch by the 23rd day; sometimes sooner so timing would be a real issue. You'd have to have the shipped eggs by or before the fourth day of brooding for your pair so you would have to synchronize this closely. When your pair has their first egg the shipper would have to have a pair that has laid a fresh egg that day too so it could be collected. Then when the second egg is laid, shipping would have to be immediate. If that day were a Thursday through Sunday shipping would be held up for a day because of the weekend and the eggs would be sitting somewhere in limbo for Sunday. Tricky business but I'm willing to try depending on where you are. I'm Sardis, TN.

A big reason why I'm looking for eggs is because my girl lays like CLOCKWORK. These birds are determined to have a baby. I'm near Wichita, KS

Then if you wish for me to send eggs, should mine lay at the right time, let me know when your pair are actively building a nest, and I will get the eggs (two) in the mail. I'm not sure what the cost of shipping would be, but doubt it would be much. I'm pretty sure ten would cover it. Of course, a lot depends on our both having pairs laying at about the same time. Eggs would have to be collected soon after being laid before development begins.

This project rather intrigues me. All I'd like is to be informed as to the results-if the eggs hatch.

I often have problems getting alerts as to posts on this site; many just don't come through to my e-mail so to avoid delays use my e-mail address: [email protected]

I won't lie, I am also very intrigued by the experiment and have been treating it as such. I figured it'd make my babies happy and I could test out my theory. Currently my pair is on a nest (fake or addled eggs). My issue is that they are rarely *off* the nest. They just keep trying!

In order to do this you need to start them over in nesting by removing the eggs and nest. Keep in mind that even the most devoted pigeons are on a time schedule and when the eggs don't hatch when their supposed to the pair starts over; any eggs that were put under then too late would be ruined.

So how would we even time this?

You have a pair and I have five pairs that I will put towards you getting eggs to put under your pair. All six pair are started over at the same time and then you cross fingers and toes that one of my pair starts at, or close, the same time as yours. Ideally, I have eggs to send when your pair starts building a nest.

My birds have been trying to nest, but each time a snake gets the eggs. I have had no luck in catching the snake or finding out how it gets in the loft. So, I might as well send you the eggs rather than the snake having them for lunch.

I like that idea and I appreciate your assistance! Have you considered a camera where your birds are? I've always wanted cameras in my enclosures.
