ISO: Friendly Advice. Moving away from family & never returning.

I definitely agree with you about family communities! If we could live close to family, I happily would.
For us, here is where we are meant to be and God has made it abundantly clear! We have a wonderful parish community and will soon be moving into a neighborhood where two of the families already reside.
My own family is considering moving out here someday, but that is years down the road. We will see.

So glad you are making friends in your new home! That will go a long way to keeping you from isolation and loneliness!

Families are made from more than just blood ties. They are what - and who - your heart decrees!

It is very difficult and incredibly expensive to travel between here and Ohio for the majority of the year, so unfortunately it won't happen much.

It is quite a stretch in distance miles for sure. Driving does take long time, taking away visiting time as result.
My suggestion,,, that you can look into.
Southwest airlines does offer reasonable tickets. (compared to other major airlines.)
Not sure if the cities at both ends are served by Southwest.

They are serviced on both ends! Either way, gas tends to cost the same as a round flight, i.e a solid $800 between the two of us. So it can definitely be done, just not so often as we would like.

Growing up in the days of long distance calling, before easy computer connections, my Mom's entire family was a full day's drive away, so I understand. Still, even when her sister had to move across the country, she managed and today we are still close. It's hard and it takes persistence, but it's worth the effort!
