I’m curious…with all the attention ivermectin has gained over “the” virus…and now I personally know multiple people taking it as a supplement… Do you really think egg withdrawal is necessary when worming chickens with ivermectin? I’ve read a couple different suggestions, an egg withdrawal time of about 10 days is what’s educated. Is there a different reason to withdrawal that I’m unaware of? I just thought it was from the drug itself. I don’t want to lose 50 eggs for no good reason but my girls do need wormed….

:bow @dawg53 .... Would know, thank you in advance & correct me if my notes have any errors. Thank you
Do your girls have worms? or are you just doing a routine worming?
Reading notes, it would depend on the type of worms also ... Notes I've gathered from this website thru the years ... Personally I've used Safeguard once with another "flock", worm only when needed and my girls (3) are confined to their CH (8x12x7)

Worms -
Some recommend fasting before worming, feeding 4hrs after gradually (starving will gorge & may cause impacted crop)
  • Roundworms - Wazine, Safeguard, Valbazen, Pyrantel Pamoate
  • Cecal worms - Safeguard, Valbazen
  • Gapeworms - need 3-5 days with Valbazen or Safeguard. Dose depends on which one you use.
  • Capillary worms - Large Safeguard dose for five days is needed. (Safeguard, Valbazen) They are so numerous that they require a couple extra days treatment to get rid of them.
  • Tapeworms - Praziquantel; fast 24hrs, pea size on bread, repeat 10days, yogurt 2 days after treatment, egg withdrawal
Levamisole treats large roundworms, cecal worms, capillary worms, gapeworms
Pyrantel Pamoate treats large roundworms, cecal worms and capillary worms.

Safeguard or Panacur (10% fenbendazole liquid or paste) - Will treat all worms except tapes, but must be given 5 days in a row for gapeworms and capillary worms. Dose 0.23 ml per pound of body weight five days in a row. Most people wait two weeks before eating eggs. If you decide to get Safeguard, get the liquid because it's much cheaper. One bottle of liquid = 125 ml, five tubes of paste = 125 ml.

Valbazen (albendazole) - will treat all worms; does treat tapeworms, at higher doses
Dose is 0.8 ml per pound of body weight orally. Repeat in 10-14 days. Gapeworms require treatment for 3-5 consecutive days. Most people wait two weeks before eating eggs.

Wazine (piperazine) - Not labeled for use in laying hens here in the US, so most people wait two weeks past the last treatment. Treat once, repeat in 10-14 days. Can be given
orally or in drinking water. 1oz/gal …

WormOut Gel (oxfendazole and praziquantel) - Treats all worms including tapes and it can be given in water. Dose is 47 ml per gallon for two days. Repeat in 10-14 days. Egg withdrawal is probably no less than two weeks.
