I think I have a little japanese black bantam. I looked up the breed and all I was finding is their country of origin, size, egg size, and temperature tolerance. I found nothing about their personalities or temperment.

I'm hoping someone could enlighten me a little about what they need for proper winter care, temperment, and general health issues their prone to?

Storey's illustrated guide to Poultry says: "The japanese bantam is not cold weather hardy, and must be kept in a tight building during winter, possibly with supplemental heat.
The bantams are otherwise gentle and easily tamed. During warm weather, they are active foragers and happy fliers. Hens lay a fair number of brown eggs, brood readily, and are excellent mothers."
As far as I can see, this is strictly an ornamental breed, not for meat or eggs. It is however a good breed for showing at county fairs.
I hope that this information is useful to you.

Some, thanks :)

I have never raised Japanese bantams, but I have raised a few other kinds.
Bantam eggs are really small. It takes a lot of them to feed one person.
Bantams make great pets for small children.

My bantam roos never gave me any trouble, but I know someone who says their bantam roo is aggressive.
I'm not an expert on this topic. My bantam roos are great pets.

I guess i'll just have to wait and see with mine. Not good for meat, not good for eggs, and can't really give him away in my area. He is really adorable though and does seem to get along with our ee roo,, big red.
