Ours gets from out of state. Hatcheries, not local. Thats why I never questioned him being mixed breed XD

then what in the world is he??? Don't look like the old english, not the japanese, maybe the dutch??

He cannot be a Dutch. Dutch have white earlobes.

His are a little white. Though you can't tell in pictures. It's not a bright white though. Well, either wayy, the information I got should help no matter what kind of bantam he is.

He looks like Black Old English Game Bantam to me. Hatchery-quality birds are often not the best examples of their breed.

I think I have a little japanese black bantam. I looked up the breed and all I was finding is their country of origin, size, egg size, and temperature tolerance. I found nothing about their personalities or temperment.

I'm hoping someone could enlighten me a little about what they need for proper winter care, temperment, and general health issues their prone to?

Very flighty, but less so if handled. You won't catch them, but they will return to the coop to roost at night.

Very broody and roo is very protective and LOUD.

The roo's large combs are subject to frost bite, which iwll grow back but will be damaged. My hens do just fine in Wyoming Winters. Subject to mites and lice, so be sure there is a pan of sand or dirt in their cages for dusting with maybe some OE. De worm occasionally. And know that hatching short legged birds is a numbers game; don't be squeamish.
