Here is my new flock! I have 5 Lavender Orpingtons (5 weeks old) and 3 Diamond Duchesses (4 weeks old - chicken math… I needed more), and I’m brand new to raising chickens. We’ve been talking about doing this for years, and now that my son is almost 3, we thought this would be a fun way to start teaching him about the responsibility of caring for animals.

Annny-who, all of my chicks were labeled as pullets, but I guess sexing isn’t 100%, so I’m curious what others with more chicken knowledge think. A couple of the Orpingtons have always been a bit larger than the others, but they’ve also developed and feathered out faster, so I wonder if they’re a day or two older.

So… do any of these beauties give off “roo” vibes?

There are a few suspicious chicks' with the potential to be a roo.
Will likely have one or more. Chech out this article on roo's:

After realizing the need for clarity, I decided to create an article for those of you who have roos with behavior issues, those thinking about adding one to your flock, or if you are just curious since the issue is natural to come up for each of us in even the most docile of males. It is...

Orpingtons 7 weeks
Duchesses 8 weeks
I presume if my chicken math is correct?

Number 1 is the only one I see with a darker comb, but it could be the lighting.
It’s the opposite actually. The Lavender Orpingtons are a week-ish older than the Duchesses. Here’s another angle on #1. Hopefully Aretha Featherlin isn’t actually an Arthur. Hoping all are pullets, but if one ends up being a rooster, I have a home lined up.
