Although we bought these as just plain guineas, they're a lot different than many photos I've seen. Is this a jumbo french guinea instead of a regular sized bird?

@ millersdawn616, Jumbo's are only a couple lbs bigger. I think a average Guinea is around 4-5 lbs, and Jumbo's are around 7lbs. The "french" Guineas are as large as the Jumbos, and they are the ones that cant reproduce naturally for some reason. However the Jumbos can reproduce naturally.

@fourpawz from the photo it's impossible to tell. The only differences are simply the sizes. The biggest thing I notice about this bird is the blueish head, which is very interesting to me. This is the wild trait coming out in it. All the wild species of Helmeted Guineafowl have dark blue heads, through centuries of breeding and domesticating them, the heads turned white for some reason. I have post on this forum titled "my exotic guineafowl" with pictures of some of my natural wild Guineas.

That coloration may be an artifact of the camera, actually. The photo was taken when the bird was approximately a year old. He turned 4 this month and he and his other 2 brothers have white heads. I think he and the other 2 are different from the guineas around here because the others I've seen are not as deep through the body as are mine. Mine are more spherical in shape than most others I see.

Here's a picture of his head - there is a slight bluish cast, but it's my camera. His head is more white in the flesh:
