Not sure if this is normal for Call ducks......my big ones never did this. My little two week old Call duck jumps! Not just a little hop but about a foot & a half vertical leap! Is this normal?

Also, do I really have a Call duck? It seems big at two weeks old for the 'adult' size it should be! I know it is virtually impossible to tell right now, but maybe some measurements from other Call owners. ;)

Aww! I would not be surprised if you have a jumper. Perhaps @Lacrystol and some of the other Call folks can advise - there is a Cute and Cuddly Call Duck thread - you might enjoy that!

Jumping normal for a Call duck? Absolutely! We have one named Froglet cuz she jumped from one side of the incubator clear to the other side when I opened it to get her and her buddies out after hatching! That was an 18" leap for a couple hours old duckling, lol...

By a week old they can usually get their bills to reach a foot high while jumping in the brooder, so 2 weeks old, yep... they do it...

Can't tell relative size from your pic, could you take a pic of her next to a soda can or something universal sized? Any other reasons you are doubting she is a Call? Where did you get her?

While approximately a pound is the standard for Call duck weights, breeder quality can be a bit bigger... pet quality can even push 2 pounds... she may just be a bigger sized Call... :)

I feel like she is the same size as my large ducks were at two weeks. Maybe just growing extra fast! I got her from someone local who isn't an expert at Calls, they had been given a breeding pair randomly & hatched a couple babies. I have pictures of the parents & some of her just after hatch, I picked her up the day after. She hatched June 22nd. She was all yellow & has been changing to mostly white on the chest (as you can see from the picture), she does have a dark patch on her back near her tail. Her beak has not changed much other than her dark spot on the end has darkened a bit over the last few days.

She's not going anywhere if she isn't actually a Call. As all my ducks, she was intended as a pet, no show quality needed!

I do need a name for her....been calling her Peep or Pip, but that is just because that is the only sound she makes. Who knows it may stick.

Thanks for the help. The leaping was a surprise since my fat-so full sized ladies never did this.

Looks like a Call from what I can tell from the pic... they tend to hit a growth spurt at 2 to 3 weeks and gain a lot of their weight then... she could be pet quality is all... would like to see pics of the parents too, I could tell you more from those... Snowys should absolutely have the dark bean on their bill and dark area at the tail base... her legs dark too? Greenish? I think Pip is a good name... :)

Oh, wow!! It's a small world! lol...

I know someone else on BYC that has ducklings from those same parents! @DwayneNLiz look! Sibling of your 3! :D

Yes, she is a Call... but the color is not quite correct for Snowy... I talked to another friend about their color and she thinks they're either Snowy mixed with another color or closer to Spot color... I can show you some pics of my Snowys at different ages if you'd like so you can see the difference... :)

Holy cow! Yep siblings!! Lol
@ducksanddog we share duck families!! Can't believe you remembered thanks!!

I'd love to see your Snowy's! Do you have any Spot color ones? I will look them up too.

@DwayneNLiz
Awesome! Mine was 6/22, a bit younger. So pretty, I can't wait! I only have that one photo of the parents, do you have any more of them?

The ones of Peep I posted today were within minutes of taking them! She happened to be taking a nap on me!
