Don't forget to factor in the shipping cost to see the actual cost per bird - there are advantages/disadvantages to both approaches (ordering direct vs. retailer), with cost being just one factor.

Good point. Also, I always have them vaccinated for Marek's which adds about another 20 cents or so (depending on the hatchery) to the cost of the chicks.
