Hiya, and welcome to BYC!
Wow, sounds awesome! Where do you live? Do you have pictures you'd not mind sharing? (Of your birds, not the centipedes )
Are they the same kind we have in the states? We may see ONE now and then, like a couple a year, but I never knew they could bite! The centipedes are no joke, I got bit by one
We don't hear them because we're used to the sounds, but visitors always notice them. They nest high in the treesI had to look this up and now feel silly.
I hadn't heard much about the "wild chickens" issue in some areas of Hawaii, particularly on Kauai. That must be miserable to try sleep in there!
I don't know exactly what centipedes are like on the mainland, but we have two varieties, one huge and red and the other is small and blue. Both hurt. The red jungle fowl (what we all call "chickens") love to eat them (and they also fertilize the farm); we just have to keep them out of the bananas and fruit trees.....Are they the same kind we have in the states? We may see ONE now and then, like a couple a year, but I never knew they could bite!
I still teach at KCC; you may have been in one of my classes. Good luck in everything and hopefully you'll return to us soon. Aloha! Thanks for joining! I went to intermediate and high school on Kauai and took a couple years at KCC. My parents still live there. I miss it a lot!
The centipedes are no joke, I got bit by one when I was working for the Youth Conservation Corps and top 10 painful things I've experienced.
Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
