Keeping coyotes out of my yard

I have to agree about the electric fencing. It's what we use, and while not foolproof, it works better than anything else. It's not that expensive, and it will keep animals from climbing over or digging under your fence.

An electric wire at fox/coyote nose height is VERY effective.
I have used that for more than 20 years and never had anything burrow under my fences.

Fencing good idea right up next to building but in open, our coyotes are very good at getting through or over typical hot wire. Even some of our hunting dogs learn how to jump it clear or simply tolerate the zap, especially the bone headed ones.

Putting out poison that can kill anything that eats it is hardly a "good idea"

Put up some electric fencing, but keep in mind you won't keep anything out if you don't fence all four sides

where i live we have a leash law. That being said if a critter comes onto my property it's fair game in my opinion. My neighbors dont have outside pets so i only have the coyotes , coons etc... to deal with. While i respect your opinion , i will take what ever steps it takes to protect my family and flock.

A good chicken dog is hard to beat. I raised over a hundred free range chickens every year for 13 years. the chicks hatched under a hen and were turned loose right after hatching. My farm is unfenced with badlands on one side and a creek on the other (prime coyote habitat) losses to any predators were rare.. Most dogs are protective of any farm animals they know you care about. My dog was a 50 lb Airedale.
Fence that yard dog tight and un kennel the dogs. Coyotes will not fight with 2 dogs. My biggest losses were from horned owls taking them out of the trees at night. Good luck

That is only way I can use electric fence to exlude predators. It is up against some sort of structure denying clean jump past fence. Open areas such as perimeter fencing for pasture and exclosures around ponds is not a practical application for excluding predators. OP has option of excluding coyote from yard or coop / run which still has not been clarified.

Well - all I can say is that that wire has been 100% effective keeping out coyotes, bears, cougars, lynxes, wolves, raccoons, and opossums.

I havent seen a single one of em anywhere near my chooks in the 23 years I have lived here- lol

I run hot wire about 6 inches outside my perimeter fence,4 to 6 inches high. I have brood mares/foals, and chickens I free range, along with cats and dogs on 5 acres. We have a large population of coyotes(3 hybrid packs) 60-87 lbs. confirmed by Florida Game and Fish. I also run a top strand 6 inches above the field fence. The power box I use is rated for 20 miles and for use on buffalo. It pulses and will knock you to your knees if you touch it.(I know I have). It works great, only one time in 22+ years. Had a black bear 2 years ago, pack of feral dogs ran it onto the farm. After it got shocked, it treed up for 7 + hours. Had to turn of the fence to get it to leave. This charger cost a little more, but is sure worth it.
Ii also put signs in the wire posting it and showing the electric sign for shocks.

Hard to belive I only live a little over 20 miles from downtown Orlando. I will not use poisons, my neighbors have small kids and I don't need my working dogs and barn cats getting hold of a poisoned animal and eating on it.

I moved to 5 acres in the country, so it is my responsibly to fence to keep in as well as keep out what I want on my property.
