I currently have 6 ducks, (4 runners and 2 rouen/saxony ducks). They are all girls and I am thinking of getting a drake. They live with my flock of 20 chickens. They sleep in a coop/shed during the night and all free range during the day. I heard that drakes can be aggressive towards chickens and can injur them badly if they try and mount them. I don't really want to seperate the drake during breeding season. So is there a relatively calm breed of drakes that don't mount the ducks too much, and will leave the chickens alone. I don't want a heavy breed of duck as they could hurt the runners.

Drakes penetrate when they mate and chicken hens can be killed if a drake does so. I'd recommend keeping a rooster in your flock as he may keep drakes away (but isn't always the case)

Getting a bantam drake would be best (like a call or Australian spotted)

Getting some more duck hens is a good plan too, if he has enough hens to mate hopefully he won't try the chickens.

I have a rooster in flock already so he might help. I was actually thinking of getting a couple calls bit was worried about them flying away as there are a lot of wild mallards near us. I would have to clip there wings anyway. Thanks for the advice
