Killing Foxes - DIY

I have a fox that keeps on praying on my chickens - any diy ways to kill the SOAB?

Are you in a no shoot zone? If so, I'd contact your ACO and have them help you with the problem. If that's not a solution, see if you can find a local trapper. In the mean time, make sure your birds are secure. Fox are smart, they can dig well, grey fox are actually able to climb trees, and all fox will scale over a fence into a run that is not well secured with a fox proof top.

I believe you need to contact your local animal control. I believe some species can only be caught and relocated, not killed.

I'd set a foothold or a live trap. Dispatch it when you catch it.

Lots of traps and snares demonstrated on utube. Been used in Briton on the Lord's estates for ages.

hi, yes in uk so pretty much a gun free zone, LOL

I was thinking more of poison or home meds - heard an apple with lots of paracetamol in it might do the trick.

nothing so handy as an animal control officer in the uk

Live traps are target specific and you can choose to release or not. Leg hold traps or killing traps don't have a oops factor. I have issues with poison being messy and again, no oops factor. Hav-a-hart live trap or something of the sort. Homemade or other. Don't know if you have a lot of family pets in the area. Dogs, cats, pigs or hedgehogs running about. Chickens can get into the trap/poison too.

Alternative is more fencing. Electric fencing I've been told works well. Electric poultry netting. The electric stuff is a long term detriment, IF you turn it on.

Our counties will have live traps available for use for nuisance animals. Put a deposit down, then get it back when the trap is returned (empty preferred). Can you contact your county government and ask about any programs?

i see your in the UK so am guessing no guns or shooting, also are traps not banned in your country?

i guess you could talk to your wild life control to see what you could do. (i live in Canada so i would either shoot or trap the fox and then sell the pelt).

to the guy who said there is no oops factor on foot hold traps. um what are you talking about as a trapper foot holds are really not that bad (been caught more then once in a foot with my hand) yet to break a bone. (and these are duke number 3 2 coil spring padded jaws or coyote traps)

PLEASE DO NOT KILL THE FOX!!!!!!! contact animal control and RELOCATE IT!!!! due to so many people being to lazy to fox proof their chicken coops or CALL ANIMAL CONTROL we have barley any foxes left in our area. this saddens me, its only a small animal looking for food. people also stop them from eating chickens by feeding them a little! they are just trying to survive! if anything we should be killing wolves! they are actually dangerous to PEOPLE!!!
