King quail newbie

I just got 2 king quails (a male and female) and I need some tips and advice raising and breeding them. For food I blended some chicken layer pellets mixed with some small parrot seed mix and they also have water. They are in a pen with my hens and have a hideaway so they don’t get pecked. Also there food and water is in bird bowls (the ones that hook on the side of the wire). I was wanting to breed them so I need help with that and I was wondering if I am doing everything right??

They are social creatures- it might be hard to raise them to their full potential as only 2 animals. Males can really hurt a female if there is only one in the pen area, so make sure she has room to get away.

Males should have at least 2 females to chase.

When the hen starts to lay eggs, collect them for 5-7 days and set the eggs pointy end down. Put the batch of eggs in the incubator all at once- don't wait any longer than 7 days because fertility goes down. Keep kept eggs out of the sun.

When the hen starts to lay up the calcium and slightly lower the protein intake.

Quail are not usually raised by their parent quail so the brooding ritual is all messed up and not understood. Most Coturnix from China or Japan are terrible parents for this reason. So you'll need an incubator.

Lockdown is day 15 hatch day is 18 for Coturnix Japonica
Button its.. 13 and 17 hatch. It all depends on the weight/size of the eggs button quail can be super tiny or larger than assumed.
I hatch mine at 60% humidity first 15 days and 75% humidity during lockdown.

I am no specialist for King Quails, but as far as I know, are King Quails (Chinese Blue) not flock birds, they live monogam in pairs.
They are very territorial, so more than a pair can cause problems.
As always, it can work, especially with much space, but there's a high risk of bloody fights.

They mate for life, so pairs are best.

Does anyone have feeding recommendations and should I put their food in the bird bowls I have them in now or something different

I would recommend gamebird pellets/crumble. I use Laucke Mills Gamebird Finisher, but that's an Australian brand. I just put their food in small ceramic bowls from a pet shop.
