Lamp vs plate

I am late but will weigh in anyway.

Ducklings means water everywhere. All it takes is one tiny drop of water hitting a hot bulb to make it explode sending sharp tiny shards everywhere.

For ducklings and safety I vote heat plate. That said be sure it is able to function properly in the lowest temps expected when you are getting them.

Glad you posted this @dragonmaker - for the record, I used a heat plate for my two rounds of ducklings and it was fantastic. I just ordered chicks for the spring and was surprised that the hatchery pretty emphatically recommends a heat lamp as opposed to the plate. Here's the link to the site they point you to when you check out. I would still lean towards the plate but now they have me second guessing!
