Larkwell Valley (2023)

Thinking I'm going to sell some of my scovy hens in spring since I don't have a male anymore. Loony is staying, and my two chocolates, but I think Twila and the two new hens (both called Cricket) will be rehomed. I'm done ordering birds for the time being, and they're something people out here are always interested in buying

Let's play a game of 'What the 😬 happened?'

I know, anyone want to guess?

Laying on wet ground and got stuck to the ice?

Or rather, it got colder and the water froze and trapped the bird.
Yep, the 1st. His feathers were probably also wet. Ended up cutting half the feathers before he tore free himself. Poor boy, I feel bad that he pulled so many, I'm sure he's sore.

Many years ago when I still lived in Ottawa, we had a sudden flash freeze and rescuers had to go out on the river to free the mallards that got frozen in place. It was horrible. Ducks were ripping themselves out of the ice to the point of ripping their skin off. :(

I was really scared I'd accidentally cut his crop while clipping him free. Almost cot a toe a few times with how he was struggling. A 3rd hand would have really helped to hold his legs still
