i've got a real dilemma on my hands. Our geese, mainly our gander Lee, will have honking fests at various hours of the night. It wakes my husband up, he gets upset, then he wakes me up. They have a new larger sleeping pen which they have been staying in for over a week. It sits about 15-20 feet from our bedroom door. It's got two solid sides and two sides that are chain link doors covered with hardware cloth. We started covering those chain link doors with sheets several nights ago, and that helped a bit. i bought some dark colored landscape fabric that i'm going to make drapes from today. Maybe that will help more.

i just ordered sound-blocking ear plugs for my husband online, due to arrive tomorrow. But he is also concerned about the honking upsetting our neighbors. No one has complained to me, and i don't want to upset neighbors, but don't know if the occasional honking even does bother anyone. It doesn't bother me.

i'm not sure what else i can do and was hoping for some suggestions here. i can post pictures of our new goose house a little later.

Do you think something is upsetting him or is this normal behavior? I never hear a honk out of our gander at night unless i sneeze then he'll let out a hoot.

Oh, how sweet! You have a gander that says "Bless you".

Well, our adults are only a year old, so i'm not sure if this is normal goose behavior. We have hatched out some kids, the oldest of which now live in their former pen and house. They were all pretty honky when we first introduced them. But that situation has calmed down. And although it is breeding season, i haven't seen any breeding behavior out of our adult three, only a couple eggs months ago from one of the girls.

It's only been recently, and even before we introduced the kids outside, that Lee was getting honky. He likes to strut around the yard during the day honking. And then now at night, at various times.

i wonder if i should set up a game cam to see if anything is coming near the pens. Part of their pen is attached to our goat pen, but they're friends with the goats.
