I found this fascinating and wanted to share—apologies in advance if this upsets you!

Today was hatch day and I suspected this egg was a late quitter. I opened it up to investigate and to my surprise there were two nearly fully formed chicks!

Can anyone shed some wisdom on the likelihood of hatching twins? Have you ever successfully hatched twins? What happened at this stage that made them quit?

Wow thanks for sharing. Sorry they didn't make it but from what I understand it's pretty rare for twins to make it to hatch. I'll try to find the thread where someone attempted it.

we’ve hatched 2 twin chicks. The didn’t pep until day 23 & kicked out on day 25. The egg was noticeably heavier even just holding it on day 18 changeover.
Who knows tho really.

Here was an accidental twin hatching that did work out but I believe it's pretty rare. @gimmie birdies hatched them.
Whoa! Thanks for sharing—SO cool that gimmie birdies hatched twins. I was shocked at how formed these two were, just fused at the center.

Did you suspect they were twins when you candled? I had no idea, and this one didn't seem to weigh more than the others in the batch.
