Once I decided to raise chickens for our own eggs and occasional meat I looked up parish (county) ordinances (we're just outside city limits) regarding how many chickens and roosters I could have. I actually had to have a friend find it for me because silly me, I was looking for things pertaining to chickens, poultry and fowl, but chickens fall under livestock :idunno.

I (my friend actually, but he isn't here so I'll take the credit) found out there were no hard set limits as long as neighbors don't complain, they're kept on my property, and are well cared for. So now I'm starting to entertain the idea of selling farm eggs, hatching eggs, chicks and possibly started pullets.

I'm at least a year away from doing any of this, but would like to know if any licenses are required, but again the information is eluding me. Is there another 'keyword' I'm not using to find the appropriate information?

I'm no expert so I may not be much help, but I think most of the regulations regarding hatching eggs, chicks and pullets are concerning if you are shipping them. That might be the direction to search, it may lead to other more local regulations. Also search business licenses, commercial hatcheries regs ( they might say something like if you are selling more than x numbers). Anyway, you've got time. If you find out anything concrete, post it, to help others wanting to do the same in your area.

I think I found it, sort of, lol. Why don't they speak plan English in these things?

Ironically, I found that when I searched for selling chicks in Louisiana, which apparently are an egg product? I think.
