How do you judge a purebred Cemani? What do you look for when looking for eggs/chicks/birds? I've found a local guy who breeds them, and has eggs available for hatching. 12 for $30.

It seems to good to be true, but from the pictures the chicks look to be the correct breed. I just want to know what I should be looking for. Thanks!

He just sent me these. The males look very beautiful. I'm not so sure about the girls, but Im not experienced with this breed. Can anyone tell me if these look like a good quality?

Those are some weirdly cropped photos... hmm. The pen conditions don't seem too bad although not what I'd personally prefer, I like chickens on grass cause boy the love grass! (but I know it can be difficult especially with breeding pens haha) Breed quality wise, they look solid black, thats kinda the main part of em : D Looks like maybe the roosters have a favorite or two, but not too much you can do to prevent that. I'd ask him what his hatch rates for THIS YEAR have been (by him or by other customers if he's heard from them) That's $2.50 an egg, not bad for hatching eggs in general and if it's a breed you really really love then it's not a bad deal for what look to be correct birds to me!

Thank you for your response! I'm excited to have the breed and I'm glad they look healthy. I am excited about the low price. Ordering online they're upwards of $60-70 for a dozen plus the shipping.

In the first picture, one of the chickens has the wrong comb type (rose comb). However they do all look like they have black skin.

I agree it does appear to be rose but not a high res pic, I could see how her immature comb could look that way in a bad picture/angle she's a young girl yet for full development to my eye. Maybe get some better pics from them. The chicks do look legit but so did my bared mani cross
