Lemon balm and lemon grass..

Heard lemon grass and lemon balm would keep out flies and mosquitos but are safe for chickens...anyone tried it yet?

We have quite a bit of "wild" lemon balm around the yard, including in the run area, and I haven't noticed that it keeps out anything. Smells good, though, and the goldfinches love the seeds. Just be aware that once you have it, you'll probably have it forever, in lots of places!

^Same. I've got lemon balm spread across my whole property and none of the animals seems to care. I thought the chickens or our rabbit would have at least some interest in it, nope. Also have lemon grass and same thing. I've always heard citronella plant repels stuff like mosquitos, but personally I don't like the geranium based smell, so no thanks.
