Hello! We are a Spanish couple living in Belgium and we are newbie chicken lovers
We startes our flock in September 2023 with Caramelo and Lupa, Harco and the Coucou Maran, but maybe I believe it to be A Plymouth, but I have no idea... To accomodate them we built a nice coop and waterproof run (really necessary here) and we try to give them the best life.
Anyways, one week later we added Julieta, a Blue de Flandes, bought from the same farm. With them 3 we learnt the good and the bad, as they enjoyed foraging in our garden and with our treats.
Unfortunately, we lost Lupa this May and it has been devastating. She was eggbound (we were told) and we didn't know what to do to fix it at the time... We miss her so much and she will always be our little Lupita.
We noticed the flock was sad and Julieta turnied into a bully because Lupa was Caramelo's chickenguard. Caramelo was really squeamish and we though it could be nice to bring two young hens, so last week we brought Nix and Toffe.
Nix is the white hen, with the brown and grey spray and kind of grey/lavender inner feathers. We believe it's a leghorn mix but we can't tell. Toffe is the brown, maybe a Golden something?...We don't know their breed so if you can give us a hand on this? The farmer didn't know what to tell us this time
Immediately after they arrived Caramelo went broody and now we have quite a show here... so we're trying our best and let her be!
The new hens are young and playful, specially Nix who isn't afraid of us anymore, but Toffe is really afraid and is agile like a fox!! We keep them on different coops and we fenced the garden for them.
So this is our flock now, with Caramelo as the O.G., Julieta, Nix and Toffe. We will try to keep this updated!!
Cheers hen family!
