I’m thinking this is going to be one that keeps me in suspense for quite a while, but it’s always fun to play detective.

Clean face and legs. I believe she has a single comb. Not sure on leg color yet. I haven’t been able to match her up with any of the photos in the Meyer chick ID list. These photos are from the day she arrived. I will take new photos this weekend; she will be two weeks old on Monday.

I’m usually pretty good at figuring these mystery chicks out, but she has me stumped!

She is the one looking at the camera in the first photo (with a Salmon Faverolles pullet) and in front in the second photo (with a Splash Ameraucana pullet and a Barred Rock pullet).

To me it looks like the same breed as the Salmon Faverolles . . is there a reason you don't think she is?

She's darker than Faverolles usually are and clean legged with no beard. Her chick down has/had a stripe down her back, which I've never seen on a Faverolles.

Anything is possible, but I doubt that's what she is. Right now I'm wondering if she might be a Golden Buff? Her color isn't quite right for that, but it's the closest match I can find in the Meyer breed list.

I'm new and hatched eggs I got off Amazon, so I don't know much of anything about ordering direct from a hatchery.

In the past few months I've been on here I've seen several threads similar to this where the mystery chicks don't look 'quite right' to be pure breed. It makes me wonder if the mystery chicks from hatcheries are from 'oops' batches of chicks from accidental breeding. . just a theory.
