On Friday last week, my family and I noticed one of our hens had some poop on her butt fluff. She was behaving normally, so we didn't think anything of it. Today, she has been sitting around, looking very lethargic. Her tail was pointed down, and she wasn't moving much. We noticed her vent had been obstructed with poop, so we used a damp cloth to wipe it off. We ended up having to soak her to remove it. She is now in our garage in a small crate. We gave her ivermectin and corid in case she has any parasites. She's not getting much better, and she won't eat or drink anything. She's lost weight as well. What do we do??

We had a cuckoo maran hen like this, she died the other day. It was just like your symptoms. I think it might be parasites. I treated her with diatomaceous earth and ivermectin, nothing helped

I'm sorry for your loss. How long ago did you notice her symptoms before she died? If you don't mind me asking.

She was very droopy and not wanting to do things with the others for about a week before she passed. She was only 2 so I couldn’t have been age. Hopefully your little one gets better 🤞

Can you please post photos of your hen and her poop?

When was her last egg?

She had poop obstructing her vent - is she pooping?

With her tail down and acting lethargic, I'd get Extra Calcium into her ASAP. You can find Calcium Citrate+D3 at stores like Walmart, CVS, etc. If you are unable to get Calcium Citrate, you can give her TUMS.

Pull down on your hen's wattles to open the beak, put the tablet into the beak, let go of the wattles and let her swallow the pill. Do this once daily for 5 days.

Work on hydration. Get some sugar water or electrolytes into her now, then once she's drinking offer a bit of wet soupy feed.
