Life Abundance dog food

My younger sister has finally given me her young mix of a dog, from her husbands female dog. I've been wanting him, since he was a big newborn pup, the only pup.

She tells me that I should give him the best dog food she and our youngest sister had found a few years ago.....it's expensive, and they both have bought it online.

I need to know - does anyone have their dogs on this expensive food.

Nutritionally....how good is this Life Abundance dog food?

Bella is half the size of her only son.
She is the size/looks of a terrier - colored black w/tan points, upright terrier ears, shorthaired, long tail and energetic - mixed blood herself - pitbull, chihuahua, jack russel, yorkie.
Charlie Brown is taller/heavier than Bella.
Black masked puggish face, short muzzle isn't squished, brown body, large liquid brown eyes, fluffy curled tail/fluffy pug ears, shorthaired on body/legs, energetic/laidback - sire is pug.

I have never had a dog of my own, though I've been around dogs all my life, until I got married to an animal hater (didn't know that at the time).

I do not have pics, yet.

I can't even afford the expensive food. My dog is diabetic and the vet told me to give him some food that was $80 a bag.

Him and all of the other dogs I have had do/have done fine on Purina or canned Alpo. I would never feed expensive food because it is the same stuff. Just my opinion though...

Life's Abundance is a VERY good dog food. You can check out the ratings on this website where it gives you all the details on what is in each product. Some ingredients just might surprise you.

I agree with Robo. Have kept dogs for fifty years and all have lived long and healthy lives on cheaper brand foods. In my opinion there is a huge conspiracy by pet food manufacturers to blackmail people into spending ever yet more money on highly refined pet foods. It's the same with all animal feeds producers. My grandmother fed her dogs on human food, dishing there's out at the same time as everyone else's. This, with the addition of dog meal, and butcher's scraps kept her dogs going well into their teens! Don't fall for the emotional blackmail.

That dog food rating site is really good

They explain what some of the ingredients actually are, like "digest". The cheaper food often use the super low quality but very attractive to dogs coatings (like digest). Foods that start with corn and grain products can flare up allergies and skin issues. Also, with the better quality foods, you often feed far less and then also.....have far less to scoop out of the yard later.

Dogs like kids, would rather eat pizza-McD's instead of a healthy foods. And some even do fine. But many have weight problems, scaley skin, ear infections and pink yeast stains.


You may find you save on vet bills by spending money on a better quality of food.

I just looked at the ingredient list, it's ok. Better then a lot of foods, but still has a bunch of stuff that is not needed. It just makes the owners feed good. People tend to think if it is good for people than it is good for their dogs. I don't feed dog food, haven't for seven years. But if I were to recommend some they would be EVO, it is grain free. Wysong, Taste of the Wild, Before Grain, or Solid Gold. I have only seen them in independent pet stores. Remember, dogs do not need grains, fruits or veggies. I have seen a huge difference in my dogs, cats and ferrets health since cutting all that junk out of their diets.

I would not have dogs if I couldn't afford to feed them decent food. No creature should have to subsist on junk.

Oh oh oh you opened a can of worms. This is something people get VERY emotional about.

I bet that somewhere between the 7 dollar a bag, and the 80 dollar a bag, there is a good decent dog food that is decent.

We feed Diamond Naturals right now. We have at various times fed Eukanuba, Iams, Peerless (a Michigan brand) and a few others.

Well I did some math and that food will cost you about $2.15 a pound without shipping. Say you found it locally at the same price, two or more pounds a day would be $30 a week, and $1,560 a year at the very least. Go with Purina 1 at around .88 cents a pound and it would be $12.32 a week and $640.64 a year. So you can save $924 a year by feeding him equally as good food. With that money you could keep up another dog + vet bills for two dogs.
