All 3 had it and one of our Rhode island pullets, no one was in distress but now I am worrying. I inspected all of them so for 4/10 chicks to have it seems like we're more or less ok. No distress or sluggish behavior, unless we count not being too happy when they were getting cleaned. But now what to watch out for? I keep hearing horror stories of chicks this year and I guess I'm just worried.

They finally came home yesterday so with how hard they were to get and everything else we've dealt with.... I just really want to put my mind at ease, have additional info and make sure they're really being set up to be happy and healthy.

Pasty butt is usually caused from being too hot. That's why little chicks under two weeks old are usually the only ones that get it. Little chicks can't regulate their heat yet, so need plenty of room to get away from the heat should they feel too warm.

One thing you can also do that could help is give them some probiotics in their water every other day for just two days. We've used Hydro-Hen, but there are many that are powdered for the water.

Thank you! I keep checking and it’s just the one that’s had an issue today so maybe we’re on the way to being past it. Originally was 4 so I guess being consistent with checking is helping. Might do the Vaseline with that one too but it’s just enough to be covering the vent and not a huge build up. I hate irritating those little fluffy butt feathers
