Local Chicken Breeders & Hatcheries in Tangipahoah Parish or close by that are a reputable breeder o

Which one have you gone with? You always need to look at the Adults, to see what they look like. Now at this time of the year, the BA's won't look as pretty as they do in the winter. Cause they will be mostly molting looking and have lost feathers on their backs from the roosters.
Good Luck!

I haven't decided yet BCP. I probably won't make up my mind until I get ready to gear up for that drive. I really want to see his setup and exactly how sanitary and clean he keeps his birds. I just don't trust anyone to much when it comes that. Especially a home breeder. I get leary about that cross breeding with the brother and sister birds. You know what I mean? I want to breed my own, but I want to breed my own flocks, but I want to make sure I get a pure line.

I understand, You could probably ask for pictures of his setup. Our birds are in an electric netting on GRASS, and free ranging. I have saved many of my chickens from bad farms, where they live in their own poop! I saved my silkies from a place like that. They had scaly leg mites, but are happy and free ranging with the rest.

You are right BCP. I could probably ask for pictures and maybe even call him. I am eager and want to learn exactly how to breed and raise from hatching my own stock. I think that saves money in the long run. As long as you can keep your flocks color coded as that will make sure you don't have a bad line of the same chicks.

BCP, right now I live in a subdivision with a small yard and had to get permits to have chickens. I only have 12 at this point. I have 6 Rhode Island Reds and 6 Ameraucanas. But I am moving to Independence in about 3 or 4 months to 5 acres to live with my father. He has his farm yard all set up for me already. I will have 3 different types of gardens. 1 will be what they call a Rain Gutter Grow System, 1 will be traditional in ground gardening and 1 will be what they call a Dutch Bucket system. That particular system is a Hydroponic system (Ebb & Flow). Then I have 3 or 3 1/2 acres for my animals. I bought a permaculture program explaining how to free range chickens in chicken tractors with electric netting fences and moving them once a week or even every other day to get them on new grass. Of course also using compost piles to let them feed and other sources of live feed reducing your feed cost 100%. It's gonna take time, but that is why I am starting my research now. So when I am ready, I can implement the lessons of what I have learned by studying. Have you ever heard of making a maggot bucket for the chickens to get high protein from them? That's a food source. Growing Comfrey which is a very hardy plant that grows year round once established. It can grow in the hottest time of year or the coldest time of year and you can harvest it up to 8 times down to 2" and it grows right back. Then there is stinging nettles, dandelions and all kinds of stuff to supplement their diet instead of grain. Just spred out a little oyster shells for calcium and boom, you are about organic! LOL at least I think.

I buy my electric fencing from Premier. https://www.premier1supplies.com/c/fencing/
They have good prices for plenty of fencing. And it works! It keeps my 100 chickens and 2 great pyrenees dogs in. Then we have a chicken tractor made from a haul trailer. The we put a chicken hotel on the top of it. I will have to take a pic so you get the idea.
Good Luck!

BCP I have heard about the Premier 1 electric fencing from the program I bought online with Justin Rhodes, but I don't understand how he hooks it up to make it hot. In other words, I know you have to buy a conductor part where your fencing hooks to for power and maybe a tester to check sure it is hot in places, but don't know how he hooks it up for the ground wire and stuff. He says since I bought the Premium Edition of his program which was $197.00 there will be a video for me to Access it for free beings I am a Premium member. It just got me puzzled a bit.

Oh, well you have to buy the fencing and the charger. They have videos on it.
