I found two ducks at a local rescue. They are getting along great with my duck. I'm so grateful.

I am sorry this is happening to you. I fear it might to me as well. Only 2 of mine hatched. May I ask what happened to your recently deceased duck?

I'm honestly not sure what happened. It was a very cold night and I wonder if that had something to do with it.

One of my peaking ducks died today leaving me with just one other duck. I'm really new to keeping ducks. I've read about the depression they can experience. My duck has a couple of chickens to hang out with, but I'm sure it's not the same. My issue is that it's January. I couldn't get ducklings this time of year and I don't know where to find any adult duck rescues. Does anyone have any ideas?

Our Craigslist here in Ohio has adult ducks this time of the year. Our Rural King store just had lots of babies and they do grow fast but have to be kept out of the cold for about 5 to 6 weeks. Good luck on finding a friend for yours. I just saw where you found some rescues, that is great. I just rescued 3 huge ones and put them in with the rest of my flock and they all acted like they knew each other forever. Ducks are amazing. I am getting 2 Wood ducks in the near future, that will be my ultimate test on how well my ducks get along with others. I used to have another Wood Duck in with them and she was absolutely fine until a raccoon got her so I am hoping all will go well.

Sad. How cold is very cold? Birds seem to go down fast if something goes amiss.
