Hello!
Just today, a friend gave me her single duckling. It was an impulse buy that she realised she couldn't care for, and I have experience with ducks, so she gave her to me.
I have a brooder set up, with a brinsea heater etc
I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with her, otherwise, she gets very distressed. I was wondering what I can add to her brooder, which she is in overnight and whenever I'm not home, otherwise she's out with me. Right now, it doesn't suit to get another duckling but I still want to make her as happy as possible. When she's about 2 months old, I will slowly introduce her to my flock out in the pond, but until then she may be very lonely :(
Anything I can do to make her happier in the brooder, and prevent crying?
Many thanks!

A mirror most love just make sure to secure it and it doesn’t have sharp edges. And maybe a stuffed animal. My ducklings loved a stuffed animal and their mirror. That’s so nice of you to take her in. You can also start introducing her to your flock with supervised visits. What breeds do you have and what is she?

Unfortunately, I think that the best thing would be to get another chick. However, you can try to stay with her as much as possible but beware because she might become so attached that she will miss you when you put her in the coop.

Mine has a pair of fuzzy socks that she snuggles with at bed time. Couldn’t get another duckling companion for her, none available around, so when I’m home she’s with me, and when I’m not she has her socks, and she’s been fine. :)
*ETA: I have adult ducks as well, but same as you, cannot just toss her out there with them yet! :D*

I have two Indian runners, and she is a pekin :)

Thank you all for the suggestion! I will add a soft toy and mirror
