Looking for a high quality Ameraucana breeder please!

Oh boy, I’m guessing I won’t be winning with my bids then 😆 Those are high roller prices I’m not quite able to spend at this point, but @Ruffled Feathers if price is no barrier, you can’t go wrong with Paul Smith self blues!!
ABC folks and Ameraucana alliance has beef with each other. But each group has their own quality Ameraucanas and their own experts. I've found ABC folks more willing to sell you chicks/eggs and share knowledge. Alliance has amazing birds, but they keep a tight circle and don't really sell to non-members. A few of the original AM creators are part of alliance. Doesn't make ABC any lesser though.

Pick one variety to work with and go from there. I love blue Ameraucanas. However, currently putting my hands in the Ermine variety right now. It's not an accepted variety yet, but amazing birds and small group is working on a standard for them.

ABC yearly auction is always fun. I'd say, if you're not betting $200 + range for the live chicks, don't bother betting. The people who donates for the auction usually are well known in the AM circle. I'd say bet $300 min and ask to be notified if you've been over bid.

I agree with you with breeding practices. Hatch crazy, only keep the best ones meeting SOP. Work with what you have.
Oh boy! 🤑 I didn’t know they get that high! I have always been afraid to ask how the auctions did 🫣

I will not touch Club politics with a 10ft pole. I’m a happy member of both clubs and if you can put politics aside both clubs have great people and breeders and loads of information. Each club definitely has its own “personality“ 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was sold chicks without being a member of the Alliance or either club for that matter. Its up to each individual breeder.

As I suspected, Paul/Angela Smith bid is currently $201. Lindsay's bbs is at $300. Lindsay's other 10 chick variety is at $400. @Ruffled Feathers price is not an issue, I'd say bid $401 for Paul/Angela Smith Self Blue. You might win! Smith family has cut back on their other varieties over the years to focus on self blues. Can't go wrong with Smith line.

@chickenmomma16 what varieties of AM do you have

Definitely ask Once in a Blue Moon Farm, she has some really nice self-blues! Bombshellchix has black split to lavender Ameraucanas and she’s in Loomis. If you want gorgeous BBS Ameraucanas Dana Smith in Walnut Grove is awesome!
Just wanted to say Dana is awesome, she has gorgeous birds! Bonus, she’s willing to take back her cockerels if you are unable to keep them

@chickenmomma16 I won a bid. My bid was a little $300 +. I'd say I got lucky. I've seen the bids go higher. Sometime it depends who and what the item is for the auction. I think last year I also won a bid too for hatching eggs, but then my hatch rate wasn't too good. I think I need to invest in a more professional incubator. Ended up with a roosters from the hatch and couldn't find any gals for it :lau.

Love your wheaton Ameraucanas!

There's a few CA poultry shows in the next few weeks/months. There's one today in Hollister (CA), and then one of the biggest CA poultry show in Lodi is at the end of the month. Some folks requested a ABC meet, so depending on weather condition may go out to see who attended. Rn, tons of area in California is flooded, so.... we'll see.

Are you part of ABC or Alliance?
