looking for best hatchery to get chicks

Nearest decent hatchery and probably wait until mid September! I ordered 2 batches of quail eggs, both from private sellers, both shipped quickly and well packaged but the one a state over got here in 2 days while the other from a distant state got here in 8! Shipping stress can kill, heat And time are huge factors, making otherwise healthy birds very prone to disease. Of course if they are willing to overnight them…can you imagine the postage on that!

My small flock is from Hoover's Hatchery in Iowa. They supply TSC and that's where we rounded up this batch. All the birds were healthy from day one and I've had no problems. This year I'm going to buy from Atwoods and Bomgaars as well. I know Atwoods will use Ideal Poultry out of Texas, Hoover's, and Welp. I believe Hoover's supplies Bomgaars also, so angling for all three stores to see what kind of variety I can get with breeds. I think my first hatchery order will likely be from Meyer.

I know most people here are looking for chicks. For anyone wanting started pullets, we use Valley Hatchery. The girls arrived (after a 5 day shipment) definitely stressed but in good health. Unfortunately, they don't ship them until they are at least 15 weeks old, which is too old for me, but until our situation changes (space and time for incubating and brooding) we will continue with pullets. They communicate well and customer service is good.

I will be using Ideal Poultry for this next order in a month or so. I can order through Atwoods here in Kansas and avoid having to pay shipping because Ideal is already shipping often to all Atwoods locations. Just paying for birds seems like a win! I've heard good things, so I'm excited to try them out.

Im 63 and have had chickens most of my life. The only hatchery I have ever used is McMurray. I’ve never received any dead chicks and I also never had any die after receiving them. I’m extremely lucky in that regard but personally I highly recommend Murray McMurray.
Same! All the chicks I've ordered from them arrived alive and none died.Ordering chicks the wrong time of year has deadly consequences
