I'm looking for a EMU breeder in Northern Indiana. Looking for a farm that has a chance for white emus. Had a bad experience trying to ship eggs last year so would like to buy some local.

Thanks

I don't live there but I can help as much as possible!
Here are a few steps you can take to find an emu breeder in Northern Indiana:

  1. Local Agricultural Fairs and Shows: Check for local livestock shows or agricultural fairs where emus might be featured. Breeders often showcase their animals there.
  2. Online Directories: Websites like the American Emu Association (AEA) have breeder directories that can help you find local emu farms.
  3. Social Media Groups: Join local farming or poultry groups on platforms like Facebook. Many breeders advertise their stock in these groups.
  4. Farmers Markets: Visit local farmers markets and ask vendors if they know of any emu breeders in the area.
  5. Local Feed Stores: Speak with staff at feed stores; they often have connections with local breeders.
  6. Word of Mouth: Ask around in your local farming community. Other farmers may have recommendations.
If you need more specific names or contacts, let me know, and I can assist further!

Hopkins Alternative livestock only does rheas, but he would probably know someone in Indiana as he's been raising rattites since the 90s

There are also a handful of decent rattite and emu groups on Facebook, massive groups, that are also a good location to ask as well as search for Indiana, Chicago, or Fort Wayne areas. The Mt Hope Exotic Livestock and Bird sale is unbelievable and will hopefully return, it is in Northern Ohio though

The two groups I recommend are "Everything emu, ostrich, rhea, and rattite" (10k and private) and "rhea ostrich and emu" (3k and private)
