In the Brooder
I got chickens when I retired ten years ago, making a moveable coop and run that turned out too heavy to move. Since I live in the Catskills with lots of owls, hawks, foxes, racoons and coyotes, I located the new and improved my coop and covered run next to my house, doing what I could to ensure the safety and happiness of my flock. I currently have 12 hens (mostly named after flowers) and a rooster named Herb (couldn't think of a male flower name). I absolutely love my chickens and their little personalities. Herb is an especially docile and loveable Cuckoo Maran.
Since the chickens stay in their run, I do.what I can to keep them entertained with various feeding stations, healthy treats, dust baths, toys and perches. This spring I want to build a network of chicken tunnels that will allow them to run around more. I'm looking forward to getting new ideas and information from this forum. I'm always up for new DIY projects!
