Hello,
I am interested in getting some emu chicks but I’m not sure where to even start. I know we will need at least 6 ft fencing and we are okay with that!. I also know ratite feed is okay ( I think). If there are any articles of beneficial things about them or the caretaking of them that would be great!. I would also love to hear personal opinions about them.

I recommend searching heavily on diet, deficiencies, behavior. This forum is a good source as well as several groups on Facebook

I seriously enjoy having ratites, albeit rheas instead of emus in your case. Lots of fun, but they are far from something to get into casually like chickens or ducks. I hope you are able to find information to bring you up to speed

Keep asking any and all questions

Yes!, I’ve had some experience with emus before. I was previously a poultry inspector and dealt with rheas, emus and ostriches. I will definitely look more into it. We are just hoping to either hatch or get when they are smaller

'They're not an animal to casually get, they can kill you if you're not prepared.'

I wish people would stop posting claims like this. Can anyone post five references to an emu killing someone?

How about one?

Thank you!. I am trying to do the best of my research on emus and I’ve had large animal and large ratite experience before and those kinds of messages are a little discouraging. Thank you!
