Last Friday I purchased 6 chicks from Rural King… I have one left as all the rest have died… each one suddenly with no signs of
Illness. The first one passed on day 3 … the others followed every other day or so. I literally would see them eating, drinking doing their little
chick thing and suddenly give a loud cheep and die. I am not a beginner… I have raised chicks ( from RK) for years and I have never lost any! I am afraid I am going to lose them all. Any ideas on what is going on? I did call the store and they said no one has reported anything like this happening. Chicks have been kept away from all my other birds… I raise them in my house until they are big enough to be integrated into the flock. Please advise! Thank you !

What I have always used… a rubber made tote with pine shavings for bedding and a brooder lamp as heat source with a chicken feeder and chick waterer. Just basic and simple but the very same setup I have used for the hundred or more chicks I’ve raised before
Any new bulbs? Any sprays? Are you getting temperature spikes.

I do not know what area you live in but the chickens might have had a roller coaster of a ride to RK. I know the weather here in Iowa was crazy. 80 degrees one day and a blizzard 48 hours later. I had to keep my bird in the brooder an extra week and even that I had to put them in a portable tractor in the barn. Maybe they got caught in some crazy weather during transportation to the store and took its toll on them. Just my thoughts.

There was another poster who had the same problem from chicks at rural king, not that long ago, maybe there is an illness going on there
