I really know nothing about birds or pigeons but 30 min ago there was a flock of birds I could see them through my window. I stand to look at them and I first though they were ducks. They were big and I never realized pigeons can get that big. I had to Google them and the first page with image similar to them is this one. Now I am fascinated. I live on Roosevelt Island where there is only a one single lonely duck pet or 11000 + Islanders, habitantsHi, I found a homing/racing pigeon a little over week ago. I brought it home, cleaned it up, gave it much wanted food and water. I was able to track down the owner, who did not seem very interested in the bird. I did a little research, and found out that most owners don't want the lost birds back. I now need to find this guy (guessing) a new home. I live in eastern Nassau County on Long Island but would gladly drive a couple hours for a good home for this guy. He was born this year and has gotten pretty used to being handled. I've been calling him Walter, but I've been wrong at this guessing game before. Anyway he/she would make a lovely pet/companion. He is a grey bird, your every day run of the mill grey pigeon. If interested, please give contact me at 631-327-4381 picture forthcoming.
I realized I seesaw this flock before and even took pictures during last fall. It looks like they live here. If saw they may be cared for by the island sanctuary. Next person to find unwanted lost grant pigeon could may call Roosevelt Island
Calling the Roosevelt island Operating Corporation (RIOC) should provide the info and contact for the lady who care for the sanctuary. Other than that There is public safety Dpt that double as information desk. Very kind people.
I am definitely not sure whether the sanctuary on Roosevelt cares for the pigeons I saw or any or pigeon. But the flock more likely lives here. And a lost one could nicely fit in. Hopefully there could be matching.
