I am in south Alabama, just built coop, looking for pullets. Does anyone have recent experience with the Lucedale MS stockyard chicken sales in the parking lot? Thanks!

Hey wyldbill, no experience with any stockyards around the Gulf Coast yet...curious too. What kind of pullets? I have AM Wheaten/EE/wyandotts hens, and 8 AM Wheaten/EE/Wyandotte gorgeous roos at 16 weeks...if you are interested?
Could pass along a few hens...

He @chirpingcricket! I'm looking for up to 4 laying hens. Would love to see pics of your hens! Do any of those breeds mix well together in the pen and coop?

I ask because I don't mind getting 4 of the same breed, but would be nice if the 4 we get have a couple different "looks" or patterns or colors to them.

Hey, late getting back to you. I'm afraid I owe you an apology, I mispoke.

Out of our 1st hatch of 12, we got 7 roos and 5 hens...they (hens) are spoken for. Our 2nd hatch of 13, won't be ready until early September.

I realize you need your ladies now...and you should be able to find them on BYC...
Our first time to incubate, alot of work!

Our flocks are mixed and get along great! We wanted color and variety in our birds and eggs...so opted to work with RIR's, Wyandottes as mentioned, Ameracauna and EE's. Good luck!!!

No problem! Just got back from the Lucedale stockyard with 2 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte and 3 Buff Orpington pullets. Thanks for thinking of us though!

I bought 2 beautiful black sexlink hens from the sale barn at Lucedale for $8/pc. I was so excited that I found them. Being a novice to having chickens and not researching how to introduce new hens to an existing flock, I release my beauties into my chicken coup. My 3 girls accepted the new hens pretty well after establishing the new pecking order. To make a long long story short. My new beauties were sick! They had a upper respiratory virus. They were snotty and coughing. They in turn infected my sweet girls. After rounds of oral and injectable antibiotics, I lost two of my precious hens. Lesson here.... Look carefully before purchase and quarantine your new chickens before introducing them to your existing flock to be sure of no diseases. Learn from my mistake! Not everyone is as honest as I am. People do sell sick chickens.

I am wondering if the sales on chickens are still happening at Lucedale? and if there are any Roosters that are gentle...what time are the sales and day of sale thank u . I am in south gulf coast.(Mississippi)
