Wow, both are beautiful! What is Maximus' color name and do you have matching hens to his color? How much do you sell their chicks for? Do you sex them or are they straight run? Do you have a minimum amount you sell of chicks? I'm assuming you have no diseases or things like mites, but are you NPIP certified?

Also, do you mind explaining to me what the Mini means? (I've never heard of the term until your birds, that's why I asked if they were bantams.)

Sorry about all the questions and any more that I might ask.

Maximus is a project bird. Just his name. Cross of Mystery Game Bantam X Blue Face Hatch/Oriental.

I'm not currently ready to start selling these until I get all the desired traits, & decent number of birds.

I'm not NPIP Certified.

I only have a black hen, & pullet produced by the project.

I do have Lice, & Scaly Leg Mites. Lice I can treat no problem, but with the weather right now being freezing, I don't want to risk chilling alot of birds. Waiting for a warm up.
Scaly leg mites are a pain, but am waiting for a warm up to treat those. Don't need frostbitten legs, & feet.

I do sex chicks if requested.

Mini is short for Miniature. These are meant to be small in stature, but hefty. Goal weight is 5lbs.

Older picture of one hen.
Maximus is molting in this picture. He goes through the ugliest molts.

She's a cross of Red JungleFowl, & Black Sumatra.

Thank you for answering my questions. What about on Magnus? Any matching hen for him? Or on any of your Mini American Gamefowl, do you have any that you'll be breeding true to color? (The Blue Birchen or the Black?)
I won't be able to get anything until Spring (to possibly Summer, that is, if I can can get new birds this year) so waiting to warmer weather is no problem, but will you be able to guarantee that I won't be getting any birds with lice or mites? (I battled with Red Fowl Mites for too long so anything of the likes I shy away from.)

Also, what would be your price on sexed chicks? (Pullets and a cockerel.) And if I was to breed some of these, what would you recommend as siblings can't be bred together, but I most likely will want a rooster that could possibly be bred with the hens?

Magnus is from a pair of Mystery Game Bantams. He's bigger then his parents.

I may standardize some colorations of the Minis, but I also like mixed colors/patterns.

Magnus paired up with his hatchmate, a Black Pullet, which is Maximus's Daughter.

I do offer free lice treatments for people who are interested in my birds.

I don't charge for sexing, only the birds in general.
Siblings can be bred together, just not long term. I've done sibling breedings with one of my previous breeding projects.

Maximus, & Magnus are Half Brothers, so same dad different mother's. Getting offspring from each of them from their hens would just further lock in traits, & produce more biodiversity.

Maximus's hen is Massima, & she's a blend of Red JungleFowl, & Black Sumatra.

Magnus's Pullet/Hen is Maximus's Daughter, & is a blend of: Red JungleFowl/Black Sumatra X Blue Face Hatch/Oriental.

Hi Mainers,
We’re thinking of getting chickens in the Windham area (so as per the town we can’t have roosters). I’ve had chickens in the past (in CA) and we had a resource to offload roosters that we couldn’t keep. I’m undecided if we’ll hatch or buy sexed, even though sexed aren’t always accurate, so I was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is to rehome roosters here, or if there is a resource such as donating etc. I know how stressful it is to rehome them when you unfortunately can’t keep them!

There are several people around the state who do rooster dropoffs. I believe most of these roosters end up at auction. If you're on any of the larger Maine chicken FB groups (Maine Backyard Chickens, etc) there are often rooster dropoffs advertised. There are also a number of local breeders who will take back roosters if you buy straight run chicks from them.
Good luck with your flock!

Craigslist is often how I rehome roosters here. I post them free (if I have several, I list them as "must go together") and they go fairly quickly depending on the season. We have chicken swaps at different TSCs on Saturdays (once a month per TSC, so you'll want to learn when your local one is having theirs) and that's another place I've rehomed birds.

Hello, I was looking into owning pigeons in Maine, but I kept finding it's illegal to own them without a permit because they're considered "Wildlife." I'm talking about the Feral Rock pigeons, also other domestic pigeon varieties.
