Makeshift Incubator?

The one that pipped but hadn’t made any progress died sometime last night.
Now I’m worried about the other one that has pipped and didn’t make any progress :)
At least he has made a hole and I can see him.
The other one is still kicking, no pip.

Why do you think the first one died?

I’m reading
  • 70% H/99F on the small black ddevice
  • 97F on the meat thermometer
  • 60% H/100F on the reptile hydrometer/thermometer

Aw, I'm sorry. Did you open it up and see? He likely still had yolk and veins left and just wasn't strong enough to make it for whatever reason. Sometimes you just lose some at the end. It always sucks, but it happens. The first week and the hatching days are always the times with highest mortality. If something didn't form just right they won't be able to survive long term and usually just die before hatching. Sometimes seemingly perfect babies die too. It's just hard to know. That all sounds fine temp and humidity wise. Keep candling them and watch the veins. You can't do anything until the veins are gone either way.

Here’s the other one

His foot is sticking out and his beak is behind the foot so he can’t peck at anything…
Can you pick away a bit more shell and wet all of the membrane with some warm water? Then take another picture. See if you can see any veins at all. Try candling the pointy end while looking through the hole in the egg. See any yawning motions?
