I have all mine clipped. For me, it seems they are much less flighty than when they were able to fly. I clip both wings also.

Where are you getting your new ducks? I recently got a pair of whites as well as a trio of wood ducks. That gives me 3 white hens, 1 regular hen, 1 regular boy, 1 split boy and 1 full white boy. And 2 pair of wood ducks.. Crossing my fingers for white babies this year.

From a man in Massachusetts. He had whites origional and quail

I think I may clip mine then. I'm afraid of them getting out and flying out of the safety zone and my dogs get to them. Now I do have another question. I have to fix up my coop. It's kind of falling apart. My main concern is we had to take a good layer of dirt and poop off a while back and now when it rains there will be 1-3 inches of water everywhere in that coop.. what can I do to raise it and keep it dry when it rains? My thought is a bunch of play sand since it's cheaper then dirt and then alot of rocks to cover the top. I am new to this breed so will this be ok? Or will it cause problems?

;)they will love rocks to perch on! other plants are advised too. sand is the betchoice its what i use for all my birds. I wouldnt think its ok to use ashes too might get thoe pretty birds sick;) ive never had mandarins but ive had wood ducks and i have a pair of widgeons and a lone shelduck now
