Marans in the incubator. :)

Thanks for the tag, Tink. I was following in the beginning but my notifications have gone wonky lately.
@MountainWoman73 what candler are you using?
The JANOEL LED egg candler from Amazon. It's one of those standard black ones that plugs into the wall. Last year I used the Incu-Bright Ultra Bright portable LED candler from Amazon (the blue one) and I liked it but I lost it and I'm waiting on another to be delivered.

(It's somewhere in the house, but between me putting things in boxes and the toddlers in my house, I have no idea.)

Day 14. 10 marans and the two olive eggers show good veins/appropriate fullness. Eggs are sleepy today -- only 2 moving. Took out two that were definitely dead. (I thought there was only one of those but I either skipped candling one or candled the same egg twice. They looked so similar) They both looked like maybe day 5 when I cracked them. 3 more questionable marans are still in there. Total of 15 eggs still in, a dozen that I think are good.

The three I removed so far were all from the same hen. It's either Millie Bob or her sister Plumette who lays my largest and darkest eggs, and all 3 of them didn't make it. I wonder if it's because she's a pullet (8 months old, been laying about 6 weeks) but they are not small eggs. Two made it to day 5-ish, so they're not completely infertile. But I wonder if there's something else wrong with them since 3/3 didn't make it. 🤷‍♀️

14 are going into lockdown. All but #1, #6, and #9 were observed moving at last candling. One more was removed on day 17, looked like it quit around day 12.

I've separated the two that I think are from my wheaten hen, Fancy Nancy. I've also separated the two EExBCM. The rest should be pure BCM, if I identified Nancy's eggs correctly, which there's a strong possibility I did not. 😂

Fingers crossed for a successful hatch! :fl

Instead of starting a new thread, I figured I would ask here:

I've been hatching for many years, but this year is the first I've hatched Maran eggs.
Today is hatching day, and I have four other breeds that pipped early this morning and are still working at it.

None of my six Marans have pipped yet - is this normal for them?

I only have one other hatch's worth of experience. So not a lot of data, but in that hatch my four marans did all hatch more than 24 hours after their one EE barnyard mix sister.
