I got 6 blue copper marans egg to hatch. They hatched 2/28 and 3/1. So 3 weeks old.
I ended up with 3 blue copper and 3 black copper from the hatch. I think I only have 2 girls out of the 6. However, I'm not sure, I have never sexed chickens before.
There is the smallest of the 6 that looks to have feathers of a roo but doesn't have the large legs of a roo or really act like one. It's a black copper from the hatch.

In 1st photo it is at the feeder

2nd photo standing on the piece of wood

The male feathering (hackle & saddle) don't really show up until about 12wks. At this age it's still "too young" to tell. At this age, watch the development of their combs & wattles ... The males will be more pronounced and turn pink/red ... In the second picture, I'd keep an eye on that yellow chick in the center ... In the first picture, is that the same yellow chick to the far left?

Ok, thank you..... yes I do believe my 2 light yellow chicks are both roos from the looks if it......I had 22 eggs in my incubator had 20 hatch and 3 chicks die after hatching.... they were stuck in their eggs for well over 24 hrs...so I knew we could have problems.

My marans chicks are the ones I'm having a really hard time telling make vs female. My backyard mixes I a.m pretty sure I have 6 males. And I only ended up out of 4 eggs with 1 cream crested legbar.... luckily a pullet since they sex at birth.

Thanks again for your reply

Marans seem to develop comb and wattles pretty quickly, I could tell my BCMs were Roos for sure by week five, but by week 4 they all had a spot of red either at he base of the comb or on one wattle.
Here is that same chick now 6 1/2 week's old.... pullet??
