I have an Isa Brown hen who to me is the sweetest. She will always come to me and want me to pet her. Then, when it comes to the Rhode Island Reds, she will peck at them making their lives miserable. I have an ad in craigslist to rid of the Rhode Islanders in trade. However, the problem still persists. Now the Rhode Islanders are picking on the small ones. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

I've read that sometimes separating the bully for a few days, then putting her back in with the flock will knock her place down on the pecking order. Don't know from experience if that works or not. I did have a problem with 2 Black Australorps bulling my other birds so I re-homed them...problem solved.

Best of luck to you!

:welcome The chicken social structure or pecking order is generally not kind. Bigger birds pick on smaller or weaker birds and established flocks pick on newcomers. Given enough space and proper diet they generally work things out without drawing blood. Good luck with your flock.

Hello there and welcome to BYC! :frow

Some breeds are a bit more aggressive than others and even calmer breeds pick on the little ones. RIRs have always been a bit too much for my flock. I have tried caging bullies, pinless peepers, complete isolation and none of it ever worked for me. So other than putting up a new coop for total isolation, rehoming or even putting bullies down may be your only options. I know how difficult this is on you. It rips your heart out to see the sweeties picked on.
