Had a broody hen and decided to put some fertile eggs under her which at 21 days would hatch on my mother's birthday whom passed away 9 years ago , only 1 hatched so I named it after my moma went to check on it the next day and found the hen pecking it's sweet little head 😭

Some hens are NOT meant to be moms despite their hormones telling them otherwise (just like with people).

Some hens are excellent moms and others sit the whole 21 days before committing infanticide on every single hatchling they hatch. A neighbor had a bantam hen who would sit like a champ before killing them all. It wasn't her first batch she did it to, but even every single batch after that.

She may do it only because it's her first batch, but if you decide to let her sit again, be careful she doesn't do the same thing again.

Thank you ill most definitely keep that in mind !

Keep triple antibiotic ointment on the baby twice a day and keep it away from other chickens who will peck it to death. No need to wrap it.
THANK YOU ! I've been taking it every cpl hours to a family member who's a rehaber so she could clean and put animal wound care ointment on it but it's a lot to have to do so I appreciate you letting me know the wrapping it wasn't necessary, I have it in a tote with a heating pad under the tote a blanket for it to rest on then another blanket for it to get under which is loose so it can come from under and then a heat lamp that's a bout 3 feet above temp is running 90ish under the blanket , but it also isn't eating or drinking water unless I give it water with a syringe

Try pecking the water and food with your fingers.

How old is it? When I get baby chicks in the mail, I pick each one up like a dart and poke its little beak in sugar water (1 tsp sugar to 1 c warm water), but I figure they are stressed from travel. Yours may be suffering from shock so sugar water may be a good idea until it starts drinking on its own. Then, when its beak is wet, same technique, dip it in the chick crumbles. They usually start eating and drinking right away after that. They don't really need to eat and drink until Day Three, as the absorbed yolk will keep them going until then. You can do this! Just don't let those injured tissues dry out.

Baby was born the 12th and an update it's drinking and eating on its own 🥰 also i wasn't able to make it to my rehaber who cleans and dresses the wound which we had decided after reading your comment we would clean it and put ointment on it but I did clean it myself with the antibacterial cleanser she sent home with me but I don't have any animal friendly ointment to put on it tonight 😢 I hope that's ok for it 🙏
