Down Yonder in the Show-Me State
I'd like to get seeds for a number of medicinal plants: Butterbur; Nettle; Marshmallow Root; Calendula flower; sow thistle; milk thistle; chickweed.

Not sure if all are even native to North America. That said is it a pipe dream to get local phenotypes, or should I just google search for these where ever I can get them?

I would start by learning to recognize them, then check your own garden and yard, and ask any friends (especially ones who garden) if they have them.

I'm familiar with chickweed, and I know it can appear in a garden even if you never saw it there before-- the seeds can stay dormant in the soil for quite a while, then come up when conditions are right. So I would not try to buy chickweed seeds until after you start a garden and watch what comes up, and ask any local gardeners you know. If they have chickweed, I'm sure they would be willing to share!

I'm not familiar with the others, but they might also be available locally. That could be true if they are native to the area, or if they were introduced and established themselves there.

Thanks 4 the rec!

I ordered a bunch of medicinal seeds from Strictly Medicinal Seeds they really know their stuff.

I second Strictly Medicinal Seeds, wonderful people. Rareseeds, formerly Baker Creek, is another excellent place. I bought a "medicinal seed bundle" from Amazon with like 16 seed packs for around $24-it had most of what I wanted-Borage, Calendula, Purple Coneflower, lovage, yarrow, hyssop, bee balm, lavender, etc. I have them in my fridge cold stratifying in moist paper towels right now. My beds will be 100% herbs this year, hoping the Chickens will appreciate it!

I order from them and Outside pride. I may need to put in another order, because I just learn about chickweed and lovage. I still need to source winter wheat before the fall.
I am thinking of making a couple "sunflower rooms" this year, and placing one in the run...

I'm not sure about what naturally grow in you state/area, but I do have chickweed, common mallow, stinging nettle, and thistles (although I'm not sure what kind) that grow wild on my property. If you have property that isn't all grass you should learn what other plants you have growing (even if it IS all grass, you might have some other plants down by wild animals/birds).

DollarSeed.com also has a decent selection of medicinal herbs, and it's where I bought a good chunk of mine for this season.
