Been a very long time since I've been here. And due to pain, I can't promise to be here much.
While running through the forum trying to find out detailed information on raising peachicks. I run across a thread of one showing their gorgeous peafowl. I decided to jump on and show what showed up last spring. Will just copy and paste something I typed up for an inquiry email earlier. Hope it isn't to long. May add my questions later, if I am up to it.
I did have a peahen show up last spring. I started calling around to see where she may have come from. And since she had been here a couple months. I really did need to know how to care for her should she decide to stay. The folks did say not to feed her and she would go home before the snow flew. BUT...
I thought she had left since I hadn't seen her for a couple weeks. A couple weeks later she showed back up with 3 little chicks. I was still not feeding her because I just didn't know what to do or how to care for peafowl. But my chicken free range once the snow leaves. When my girls and my mister free range. I do put additional food and water out in the yard under the covered part of the yard. I have a gate that has sorta a curtain, strips of old sheet to help keep other things out of their yard, like the wild turkey's. But momma peahen found the food and water. Giving me no choice but to start feeding her and chicks outside the yard so my girls could go in to lay eggs and feed their chicks they had hatched. I did stop putting the food in the yard also at that time. Chickens have to go inside to their regular feeding station.
Needless to say she and peakids are still here. She knows her name, Momma. Call both girls sis or sissy. The one is little sis sometimes. I worry about them picking on her. And since I have had to let my best friend go. My rooster, Mister. Was kinda getting old and having some issues with his legs. So I call the boy, peacock, Mister now. New rooster is called Little Guy or just Guy. I know, I need something better. But I had 3 boys at time and couldn't have 2 Misters. I miss my boy. Back to the peafowl.
