We ordered 15 day old chicks from Meyer overhatch assortment and were lucky to get a 30% discount for the 4th July week. This made the deal even sweeter. The chicks arrived well as usually. We are not ordering for the first time and have been happy with this hatchery. We put in the comment to give us a mix of breeds in the hope we will get more as 1 breed.
We identified possible 12 breeds in the shipment and included the free homestead helper. The free rooster can be of any breed they carry as the overhatched chicks. We are not set and on a specific breed on this shipment. You will have 2 times the excitement. First time what will be in and the second time seeing them growing out and if you identified the breeds correctly. This way we look up breeds and educate us on them.
The overhatch assortment can included their specialty / rare breeds and bantams which is nice. We did not receive any of that. We did receive a nice mix of different colored chicks (from black, grey, red, yellow to "white"). We did not loose any chick in the first days which is amazing.
You will receive the same quality of chicks you normally get receive from them. It is a great way to learn about more chickens breed if you are not set on a specific breed and if you like surprises.
It is also nice that the offer the free homestead helper (rooster of their choice) or the meal maker program. We appreciate that they did read the comments when placing the order and gave a nice mix of many different breeds. We did not request a specific breed and this is not the purpose of the overhatch assortment.
The overhatch assortment is only open to order on Monday (shipping day), since they do not know in advance how many extra pullets have been hatched vs. ordered pullets. You have to place the order by 3pm and the minimum amount of chicks is 15. This also results in a lower shipping cost instead of order the minimum chicks of the season.
Overall it is a great offer of pullets if you are flexible on the breed. You can leave a comment with your order but don't expect them to include a certain breed.

The only problem is that there's a minimum of 3 chicks per breed (I think) and if you order 3-14 chicks it's a $50 shipping fee
