We found a house that has possibilities. The basement steps don't have enough clearance to get much more than people and small boxes down them because of the tight turns at the top.

I thought of putting a door straight out from the direction of the run of the stairs. It would be weird to have a door to the basement in the master bedroom but I like function more than not being weird. But the stairs have a tight turn at the bottom too.

I'm trying to figure out whether flipping the direction of the stairs is doable. The top door would be in the garage. Maybe a second door or doorway, at least, in the laundry room - have a landing that both doors open onto at the top of the steps.

The house has 9' ceilings upstairs but I am not sure if the basement does. I think so.

The garage is 27' deep on one of the two bays - thankfully, the correct side for this. So the garage would still be usable as a garage.

Thoughts?

We finally improved and were able to rush to prepare for Christmas. My grandson missed a lot of school, but he is better, too. TG! I was so worried about him. His parents got it from him, and his mama ended up with walking pneumonia. They are doing better, though. It was RSV. I'm sure I've had it, before. It's been around for years. It must be my age that caused it to be so difficult. 2 weeks is a long time to be sick. I hope you all had a nice Christmas. Ours was quiet, but very nice. Our sons all came to see us. And I got to see my grandson. One new thing I did, because I didn't want to go out in public and get more people sick - I signed up for grocery delivery. They leave it right on the porch. No contact. That was pretty convenient.

Can you ask the seller about the stove?
Most likely how they got it down will remain a mystery.

Or, if you mean ask about it being removed, we would say something like "remove all (something) and debris" in the contract. I forget what the "something" term is but it means their stuff that they might think is not "debris". And probably not say anything otherwise.
Can you have chickens....? :fl
Very, very sadly, no. I started to look up the zoning but dh would very much not want chickens there even if the zoning allowed. The neighbors are very close and very many on all sides. And this is a much more intense job for him so he doesn't want to do any yard work much less build chicken coops or take care of them when I'm gone.

But, this will be three years. With an outside chance of four. Then he will retire and we will move to where ever we choose to go. I expect to get chickens again then.

Always before last time, we tried to find a balance of country vs city/subdivision that allowed us both to be comfortable enough. Last time, we went quite country. This time, I've decided to be fine with as city as he wants to go - I hope to be as gracious as he was with the country-ish life we had last time. I'm sure it felt very country to him.
