I'm wondering if anyone else has purchased chicks from the Duck N Coop Hatchery in Columbiaville? Nothing wrong with the ones I purchased, I just am really starting to wonder about two pullets. I bought them as Black Australops but they are about 9-10 weeks old now and have more of the coloring of a black copper maran. There is absolutely no blue/green tinge to their feathers and they have red/orange feathering around their necks. Anyone out there have anything similiar like that happen?

Kathy

Does anyone think if I take the dead duckling and soak it in the fly bait or put some on it, in it or something, then put it back out near where the fox disappeared, it will come back tonight and pick up that duckling? That would help my some of my fear of losing more ducks and geese and then I can deal with the coons.

thats the sort of sneakiness i would use Viki

I hate to do it, but I leave the remains of a kill for bait the next day, and as close to where it fell as possible. They come back hoping for a quick snack..........

Kathy -- I haven't bought any from there, but I have saw an ad on bestfarmbuys.com posted by the Duck N Coop asking for unwanted birds to resell (I haven't been on that site for awhile -- probably a couple months ago I saw the ad). I was interested in purchasing more birds last fall and almost bought some from them and decided to hold off. Then I found MJ (yay!!!) and not long after that I began seeing the ads looking for unwanted birds to resell at Duck N Coop, so it made me wonder about quality control. Interested to see what anybody else has to say.

I have purchased chicks and ducklings from him in the past. Never had a problem. I just purchased two full grown Isa Brown egg layers about a month ago and they worked out terrific. Just wondering if I have a different chick than I thought originally and if anyone else had that.... hum.....

I would be scared of anyone I knew that was reselling unwanted birds. To many disease risks for me. Doesn't sound good. Just my 2 cents

Just a heads up on Marlin Fly Bate, it is deadly to all and within a few feet of eating it, and if that animal is eaten second hand poisoning is possiable. But if you use it then know that if you are using it for anything other than fly bait it is illigal.

So don't do like I did and ask where that fly bait that kills everything is as I have some chipmunks and red squirals that have to go, they are bigger than my chickens LOL.

So I have to wait to buy it until a different worker is there as I am going to use it for something other than flys.
