to the new folks!

I started out 13 years ago with 12 chickens, for just eggs. To date we have over 100 chickens. 25 are meat chickens and the rest are my daughters! But we get free eggs

The rest are egg business layers and show birds. One of my other daugthers is into ducks so we have 4 call ducks too and her rabbit. Throw in a couple pigs, cats and a dog just to finish it off!

Good evening all. Seems like everytime we try to mow it rains. By the time we get to finish we will have to start at the beginning and remow it.

The turkeys seem to be enjoying life in the hoop house.

Welcome everyone who have recently found us. Now joining us on the thread is great, it would be even better if you joined us at Chickenstock. Click on the link in my signature line for more info.

I am living in Panama and am new to raising chickens. I need chickens to help me live well. I also like birds very much so I can not think of a better occupation. I am very much interested in communicating with anyone who is raising chickens in a tropical environment. It is tough here for the birds folks. They get sick in this hot, humid environment. Please contact me if you can help me get a good start. Got 17 brownish red yard birds now. Lost a few, ate a few.

Those of you that have Cayuga ducks..... My brother in law has a male that is in need of a female. If anyone has one that they are willing to part with please PM me. Thanks.

By that way, it has been 2 and a half weeks since my tests that I had done and still no word on the results. They told me it would be a week before i got the results. I have called three times and i am so frustrated

No luck on finding the chick tonight

I took a chick out and it cheeped, but didn't hear anything back. Frogs are so loud now! Birds during the day and frogs at night! It is one month old and feathered out, but not sure about surviving the night in this weather.

Good night!

Hello just started my own small flock 3 bantam pullets and a Bantam straight run ( still waiting to find out the sex on that one. I hail from SouthEast MI Adrian/Blissfield/ just north west from Toledo.
I just finished my coop today, well it's not totally finished but its good enough for the birds. They havn't fully feathered out yet but close enough. I'm alittle nervous about them being out there tonight. I hope I sealed off the coop and run well enough. I do have a heat lamp running on them and I hope that will keep most pred's away.

Any ways just stopping by the huge MI thread. I guess there won't be any short supply of tips and tricks from you guys.

see ya Jeff

My little Miss Frizzle (a banty frizzle) was found drowned!!! I'm so mad. I got her special for my daughter this year, she loves the bantams, I thought she would find her cute and funny looking, which she did until she finds her in the little duck pool. All the rain had filled it much fuller than I keep it and I was in such a hurry this AM I didn't even think about dumping out the water. The really sad thing is I think it was one of my daughters friends. She came over wanting to give the chicks a bath, which I fortunately overheard and immediately banned them from the chickens period. But this little girl is not the type to follow the rules and I had to pull her out of the chicks' pen twice while she was in there she gave my little banty roo a "bath" and one of the other chicks was shivering and soaked! Unbelievably her parents were right there! When my daughter came running up to me I was in the middle of a conversation and I made her wait 'till I was finished (I apparently didn't understand the urgency, can you say maternal guilt!) when she finally told me what had happened I went running over there only to find the little girl holding this poor dead chick by the head. It makes me sick just thinking of that picture. My daughter starts crying hysterically when I say there isn't anything I can do and this little *^%$ says, "don't cry, your mommy can take you out tomorrow for a new one". WHAT!! Then I have to explain to my daughter that it just isn't that easy. The more I thin about it the more upset I get. How isn't that so many people, not just children, can feel that a life is so replaceable? What about kindness and respect and stewardship to other living creatures. ARGHH

OMG! I would be livid! I don't think the child, or the parents would be invited back to my place, ever. Hugs to your poor, dear daughter.
